"Yes, um, I'd like an order of Chicken Lo Mein,

orange chicken with steamed rice, and spicy garlic chicken with pork fried rice please"
~"Okay ma'am, your order will be ready in 15 minutes"

the restaraunt is about 3 minutes away, I'll give them 20....

20 minutes laster I step inside of No 1 Chinese to pick up my order.  The guy behind the counter (GBTC) ask what I want, I tell him I'm there to pick up my order, he ask what it was, I repeat what's listed above.  He offers me pork lo mein.... ummm, that is NOT what I ordered.... then he ask what my order was again with an explanation of "were running behind.  I tell him my order (again) and have a seat.  The place is large... cold completely, the florecent lights are dull, and empty of customers with the exception of the laid back teenager (LBT) who immediately goes into a dialogue of how his parents are out celebrating their 20 year anniversary and left him to fend for self on dinner... As I sit in No 1 Chinese food place I feel like I am in the scene of Clerks... , okay... More like Clerks II ~it's more geared towards odd restaraunt occurances....

The spot is empty (with the exception of LBT) I wish I had my phone so I could take a pic of this place.  While we wait a well dressed man enters and request to buy noodles, not cooked, just 4 packages of dry noodles- $2.00.  A few minutes later a guy in crocs and pajama pants (I swear they have the word "pink" written on the butt...) GBTC yells "heeey buddy! got your order right here!" while they say their hellos and joke around with one another a mean looking lady (MLL) walks in~ she isn't happy at all! GBTC says "may I help you?" she answers "I called about the burned beef" he takes the burned meat on skewers and gives her another bag, she looks in and says "this is chicken" (??? how does she know this???) GBTC sa;ys "chicken is good" MLL looks at GBTC like he is crazy, LBT jokingly says "but you don't want beef~ you want chicken" and giggles.. MLL gives LBT the evil eye to which he responds "eesh, bad joke... i guess"  I giggle.
"Pink" Pants walks back in  and yells "how is it you only have 3 customers and you got my whole order wrong?" GBTC looks confused, apologizes, and says "we are super busy with phone orders" and gets the right order to "Pink" pants, as he looks through the bags a skinny goth girl (SGG) walks in as asks "any deliveries?" GBTC gives her the bag "Pink" pants just bought in.  SGG leaves and "Pink" pants tells GBTC "don't make me come back!"  they both laugh, "Pink" pants walks out the door and jumps into his pretty white Lexus that is parked at the front door and drives off as a cute guy on his cell walkes in, mid sentence he says "C-23 please" and continues his conversation on his cell.  My toes are super numb by now, I am considering going out to sit in my truck it's warmer out there, as I fold my piece of paper up GBTC says "hey lady, your order is ready" I look at LBT and ask "didn't you get here before me?" he says "about 5 minutes before" we have been here almost 30!  LBT yells to the back of the kitchen to GBTC "HEY! where is my order? I was here first!!!" GBTC looks confused.... again.... I check my bag to make sure I have the right order, grab duck sauce, duck sauce, and say "sorry dude" (frowny face) to LBT who responds "at least I had someone to talk to.. that doesn't happen very often between strangers anymore..." I agree with a smile, LBT shrugs, smiles, and starts giving GBTC crap about not having his order ready.  As I walk in the door to hubby, kids, and buddy Steve the phone starts ringing.  I answer it to here "Hi, this is The Great Wall of China, I wanted to give you a call to let you know your order has been ready for over 30 minutes now"

(Oh... sorry about the video clips~ one has to see the movies to truly understand the experience I had last night at the No 1 Chinese spot...)

BLaCk cHAmomilE

so, I decided I should procrastinate no longer and do a gift basket for my cousin (that I promised over a year ago... I know... I suck).  I was thinking of a punch of color with a bold black and white design.  The first thing I had to do was get the design I had in mind together...

black, white, and pink.. I know different but... beautiful together non the less.

(I just need to figure out which b & w I like best...)

I starting thinking about what type of frangrance I wanted to choose to go with colors.  As I washed my hands and looked in the cabinet for hand soap I saw one of my favorite frangrances.  BLaCk cHAmomilE, I purchased the fragrance collection from bath and body works (sale) a few months ago for $25 (body lotion, shower gel, body spritz)   Because shopping online has become one of my favorite things to do (only shopping in store during the work day/week)  I went to their web site to make my purchase, unfortunately the items are no longer sold through them.  Next best place... Google, you can find pretty much anything there~  I found my BLaCk cHAmomilE
Body Lotion $49.95
Shower Gel
(could not locate item)

Bath Milk $34.95

????? Did I miss something?  Why on earth are these items this expensive? Looks like I have to either
1. change the frangrance I want to use

2. Get my bid going on Ebay for something much lower in price (maybe...)

ughhh... who knew that a fragrance as awesome as this would go for these crazy prices?  If anyone out there can help me locate these items at a decent price~ let me know!!!

for the love of magazines...

because I have become this crazy magazine junkie I have noticed that the magazines have begun to stack up once more... the ones that I have read i finally dropped off at the daycare center 5 y/o use to attend (they use them for the many cut and glue projects the do...) and to this day, Mrs. Shantae is always happy to see them come in.  They use to live in the corner of my dining room stacking up until I took the time to read them, now they rest patiently in some nifty magazine files i made using the boxes from packages received during the holiday  and some fabric I had in a box waiting to be delivered to the thrift store.  so, next to working out my "plan" of lb maintenance, kids, family, the ever going job search, i will read my stack of mags so that they may be donated to daycare or the local library... time to get my reading glasses out!

decided to watch the lbs..

as i pulled the laundry out of the dryer this morning i noticed the scale sitting in the corner of the garage, being me, i pulled it to the middle of the room, made sure it was on "0", and stepped on... hmmph, 147... that's 7lbs heavier than the last time i stepped on. in the last year it appears that i have gained a total of 37lbs since i got out of the military.  now that i'm sitting in front of the television watching will & grace i'm seeing the "special k" challenge every 10 minutes so... i decided, i'm going to take the challenge so... i logged on, choose the chocolate lovers plan, set my start date for the 10th, and then a menu popped up on the next screen.  hmmm, lets see, by the looks of it, i'll have to do some shopping, buying mainly "special k" items like:

chocolaty delight cereal
chocolate peanut butter protein meal bars
vanilla crisp cereal bars
red berries cereal
milk chocolate protein shakes
chocolaty pretzle cereal bars
low fat granola bars
special k parfait
honey nut cereal bars

and then it gives a yummy list of meals for dinner, items I actually keep on hand at all times like jamaican chicken breast with mashed sweet potatoes, shrimp with tomatoes and feta, grilled chicken salad, pork chops with pomegranate glaze (although i will have to make a trip down the road for the pomegranate) and an open faced roast beef sandwhich... I see breakfast and dinner... cereal bars for lunch? can i at least have a salad for lunch??? sooo...

new plan...

i think i'm going to just do it the old fashion way... excercise and cook dinner always, it seems i'll save more money this way AND cook dinners that i know my family will continue to eat and enjoy, i think i'm going to have to share my venture into healthy with you guys as i go... i mean if i can remember to get online to share~
oh well, gotta walk the dog.

Cheesy pork chops...

any time i am lucky enough to ride on the passenger side of the car, one of the things I like to do is scroll through the many recipe apps on my phone. in my quest to find really good meals to cook for the family (that I will only cook once.... at least that's what my hubby says) i found cheesy pork chops with spicy apples~ the recipe was submitted on all recipes dot com from DRANDYP. i thought it tasted super yummy and had to share so, give it a try and let me know what you think, I will definately cook it for my next dinner gathering!

*1 tbsp butter
*1 onion, sliced
*1 pinch red pepper flakes (I used more)
*1 apple, cored and sliced
*2 tbsp white sugar (I used 4)
*2 tbsp balsamic vinegar (once again... I used 4!)
*4 pork chops
*salt and pepper to taste (I seasoned with garlic powder, pepper, thyme & Tony Chachere)
*4 slices extra sharp cheddar cheese

* prepare a grill for hight heat

*While the grill heats, melt the butter in a skillet over medium heat. Add the onion, and cook until soft. Season with red pepper flakes then add the sliced apples. Stir in the sugar and balsamic vinegar, and simmer for 5 inutes, or until apples are soft and golden I added a pic of mine below (◠‿◠)

*Season the pork chops with salt and pepper. Grill for 3 to 5 minutes per side (depending on the the thickness). Spoon the onions and apples on top of the chops...

*Top with a slice of cheddar cheese. Cover the grill, and cook for about 3 minutes (or until cheese is melted and bubbling.)

the recipe says this cheesy pork would go perfect with braised cabbage, i decided fresh broccoli and mash potatoes would work best for my crowd... They enjoyed it!!! (it's going in my favorites file...)

big scary racoon....

big scary racoon

as I took Vlad out for his walk we both stopped mid step when we heard something coming from the big tree on the corner of our lot.... he stood still listening, i stood still looking.  and there it was, peeping around the tree at us with it's big white face slowly slithering up the tree.  about the size of a toddler and fat as can be I wasn't sure what it was but it scared the crap out of me.  I ran to the door and yelled for hubby to come look as it slowly went higher into the tree.  Hubby came out but couldnt see anything.  I ran into the garage to get the flashlight, ran back out and turned it on~ there it was, a super big scary looking racoon.  He stopped on the branch and watched us as intently as we did him... Vlad made the first move....

back in the house we went, if that thing gets ahold of my dog i will be super sad! This must be what Vlad has been sniffing around the shed for over the last few days, every night for the last week he goes over by the shed and growls non stop.  I should be a bit more careful over there myself as well as my 5 y/o~ his play set is located over there.... hmmm

big scary racoon...

1st morning of the new year

When 5 y/o rolled over this morning the first thing he said was "mommy, lets walk down to the beach"
hubby and I got up, got coffee, ate oatmeal and fruit, and started our walk to the beach followed by 5 y/o, a bright young girl who seems years beyond her age, and a set of twins...

the weather is unusually warm considering just hours before we were all sitting around a big fire covered in blankets.  now it's super bright skies and warmth all around us.  we walk across the street and behind a big house into the clearing for the beach.  the tide has just lowed and the sand if free of foot prints or any indication that morning joggers/walkers have been here.

the twins instantly say "can we take off our shoes?" i don't want their mom to get upset so i say no, just as i am saying no my 5 y/o runs by me.... barefooted  I look at hubby with an expression of "really???" he shrugs, sips his coffee, and pulls out his phone.

It is a gorgeous day fill with the sounds of rushing water, kids, me & hubby.  If the new year is based off of the first thing you do once coming into the 'new' year then i can say that....

THIS is going to be a great year!

New Year 2011

place: setting: etc....

kill devil hills (NC)
6 bedroom beach house
5 couples
10 kids
live music
Iphon music game
veggie pizza
roaring fire
sky full of stars
count down from the lovely H
screams of HAPPY NEW YEAR while raising glasses filled with wine, champagne, or orange juice
followed with "5 Years Time" by Noah and the Whale

who could ask for anything more than a quiet relaxing new year spent with new/old friends, kids galore, a starlite sky, next to a roaring warm fire~

Well, it is another new year, last year I said that I would visit my blog more often and write daily.... didn't happen.  I submitted job applications daily~ actually even went in for some interviews but wasn't hired... maybe due to my refusal to work nights and weekends.  I need to find a place to work where the hours are from about 8 to about 5 monday through friday (any leads???)

This year I don't plan to make any resolutions or "I will do-s" simply because I suck at follow through when it comes to myself.  I'll just live each day to the fullest and figure it out as I go.  Enjoy the new year everybody!
